Perhaps you don't understand yet so I feel the need to explain it to you.

No high performance vehicle now or ever again, is complete without a DCT. DCT is like the force of God that draws plant matter out of the ground, without DCT, no sentient being can exist at all! Have you yet to understand that DCT makes every car better no-matter it's use, application or purpose!?

not sure if serious or not.

but according to Tadge Juechter

"Torque converter is very important to enable cylinder deactivation, which is better than any DCT. Today 2:07pm "

I'm torn.

I have a love/hate relationship with DCTs.

On one hand I want Chevy to develop one for the Z06 to make it the ultimate track monster for those drivers who are good enough to benefit from the faster shifts.

And I like that DCTs exist for people who don't live by their works and have really shitty traffic.

But on the other hand I hate how once a DCT is offered the sales of sticks go down so much that the stick is in danger of going away. There is nothing I love more than canyon carving in a car with an MT. I had the best drive of my life last Saturday with my 6MT. It wouldn't have been as fun with a DCT.

I don't hate DCTs at all. I just hate what they do to MT sales...

It seems every comment about the new Z06 regards the fact that it isn't available with a dual-clutch-transmission as a fault, despite the fact that with the enormous amount of torque the LT4 engine produces, a torque converter is will be faster than a dual clutch.

It seems to me that everyone has decided that a DCT is better for everything, ever, anywhere.

Fair enough. DCTs are faster then autos (most of the time) , but they aren't the most reliable things in the world, and are heavier/slower then sequential and SCTs. Of course, those two gearboxes are hellish to use on a day to day basis, so fast autos and DCTs are what we get. But yeah, I would of liked to see GM debut a DCT with the Z06, but finally having access to properly fast semi-auto gearbox is good for them.

I'm just going to leave this here so you can read it.

Don’t be a dick.

Seriously, don’t be a dick .

And don’t be a shit-stirrer either (here or elsewhere that will lead back to Oppo. Specifically this entails no trolling, no troll parties, no burner baiting and no Jez baiting ).

NSFW in Replies (if you have doubts whether it's NSFW, it is. This includes nudity, real or implied, gore or anything else that might get someone in trouble if their boss caught them reading it at work, assuming that you are allowed to browse the internet at work).

Political / Sensitive topics in a reply

Also, the man who got paid millions of dollars to engineer this car disagrees with you.

I can't find actual tech specs for the transmission yet, but Mark Reuss stated that the 8 speed would upshift in about 8 hundredths of a second. That would make it faster than the dct in the 911.
No mention about downshifts. The drag racers well Love the auto. The track guys will still go after the manual.

Pssssh. Needs moar brown... and moar wagon... and moar diesel... and three pedals.

Still can't see where DCT fits into this equation.

I'd rather a single clutch system. Dual clutch is too heavy.

DCT is not necessarily the best for performance. Lambo switched to single clutch because dual was too heavy. They use DCT in Formula 1, but F1 cars have a minimum weight regulation they have to meet so they're happy to have faster, smoother shifts at almost any cost in weight. Granted DCT will tend to work better in heavier vehicles, since extra weight is a smaller portion of the total.
